Following their surprise defeat last year in the district finals, the No. 13 Marietta Indians were determined to make sure there wasn’t a repeat performance Saturday night.

Following their surprise defeat last year in the district finals, the No. 13 Marietta Indians were determined to make sure there wasn’t a repeat performance Saturday night. 

Three quarters of 20-point plus scoring were more than enough to brush aside Tishomingo, as Marietta advance to the winners bracket of the regional tournament with a 77-57 victory at the Marietta High School Gymnasium.

Next up for Marietta (19-5) will be a regional semifinal contest against Hugo Thursday night at 8 p.m. at Hugo High School, with the winner meeting either Sulphur or Spiro for the regional championship.

In the first quarter, Marietta outscored Tishomingo 20-11, before taking a commanding 43-29 lead into the halftime break.

Marietta kept up the pressure in the third, outscoring Tishomingo 22-14, before being outscored 14-12 in the fourth quarter. 

Colton Taylor led Marietta with 24 points followed by Trace Stewart with 15 points, and Garrett Morgan with 12 points.

Zane Nutter added 11 points with Caleb McGehee scoring 10 points.

Things didn’t go as smoothly for the Marietta Lady Indians as they dropped a heartbreaker against Tishomingo by a score of 28-25.

Marietta will now play in the regional consolation bracket beginning on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against Hugo at Hugo High School.
