Fresh off their strong finish to the season last year, the Dickson Comets wasted no time in breaking out the offense Friday in their season opening game against Ardmore.

Fresh off their strong finish to the season last year, the Dickson Comets wasted no time in breaking out the offense Friday in their season opening game against Ardmore. 

The Comets exploded for 13 runs as they won 13-1 against the Tigers at Valero Park.

Rusty Beard got the Comets on the board in the first when he slapped an RBI single, before later scoring on an error to make it 2-0.

Brice Tibbs and Tanner Stewart then combined to make it 4-0 in the second when Tibbs got an RBI single, before Stewart scored on an error. 

Ardmore got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Dawson Stedman got an RBI groundout to score Raven Henderson.

However, RBI groundouts from Beard and Tyler McCord made it 6-1 for Dickson in the top of the fifth.

Cameron McCord brought home two more runs in the sixth to make it 8-1, before Mason Marks got an RBI before later scoring along with Tyler McCord to make it 11-1 in the seventh.

Jace Rutledge got an RBI groundout, before Stewart stole home to finish off the scoring.

Beard got the win on the mound for Dickson, throwing seven innings. He allowed one earned run on one hit with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Stedman took the loss for Ardmore, going five innings. He allowed two earned runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts. 

Dickson is at Healdton Monday night at 6 p.m. while Ardmore travels to Marietta on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. 

Both teams will then take part in the Red River Shootout tournament beginning on Thursday until Saturday.
