Fun, fitness and vivid color will once again fill Ardmore Regional Park when Color Me Crazy comes back for the seventh year on March 23. Participants can participate in a 5K or 1 Mile version of the event, and are showered in colored powder as they run the route.
This is a special event for Alicia Henry, assistant director at Ardmore Parks and Recreation, because she first started Color Me Crazy when she was activities coordinator at HFV Wilson Community Center.
“It was my first big project when I came here, and it has grown immensely,” Henry said. “Every year it’s a fundraiser for something at the community center. This year the funds are going to the Southern Oklahoma Track Club who are traveling to Sacramento, Calif., for nationals.”
Henry said that runners will get blasted with color four times during the 1 Mile race and 12 times during the 5K. Participants can also look forward to the return of a giant slip and slide near the end of the race.
“It’s going towards the pavilion on a huge hill. We call it slipping and sliding to the finish line, and you can do it during your race because it’s not timed,” Henry said. She added that after the race is over, participants can return to the slip and slide for as many trips as they would like.
The cost to register is $20 per person for the 1 Mile race and $30 per person for the 5K. Teams can register for a reduced cost based on the size of the team. For example a team of five to nine people is $22 per person, and a team of 60 or more people is $10 per person.
There will be trophies given away for the largest teams in three different categories: families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
The deadline for teams and early registration is Sunday, March 10. The deadline for late registration is March 20. Registration can be made online at or in person at the HFV Wilson Community Center.
