Funeral services for Dorothy Lea Pruitt, 86, are 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, at Faith Southern Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Roy Fountain. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the assistance of Alan Davis, David Lively, David Bynum, John Jackson, Phil Jantz and Brad Jones serving as pallbearers.  
Dorothy passed away at Mercy Hospital Ardmore, Saturday, March 9, 2019, after an extended illness. She was born March 26, 1932, at Overbrook to the late Paul and Stella Jim Ward. Of Native American heritage, Dorothy was a member of the Choctaw tribe.  
She attended Overbrook Elementary School and graduated from Greenville High School with the class of 1950. The following year Dorothy and Kenneth Pruitt were married May 6, 1951, at Ardmore. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last year.  
A person of faith, Dorothy was a charter member of Faith Southern Baptist Church and had taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring after t25 years of service and was a member of Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers.  Dorothy lived life serving others; she will be missed, but not forgotten.
In addition to her husband Kenneth, Dorothy is survived by son Michael Pruitt and daughter Kenna Vanderburg; a daughter, Debra Pruitt preceded her in death.  Also surviving are sisters Chiquita Plaeger and Marilyn Bettis, brother Leon “Sonny” Southerland, grandchildren Jon Byrd, Deanna Hamblin, Lindsey Rude, Lauren Vesley and Chance Pruitt; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family has asked that memorials be made to the Faith Southern Baptist Church in Dorothy’s honor.
