It might be early in the season, but the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs slow pitch softball team is already hitting a strong stride of winning.

This past weekend at the Washington Invitational tournament, the Lady Bulldogs went 4-2 through six games to move to 7-2 on the season.

Sulphur opened the tournament Friday with a game against Blanchard in which the Lady Bulldogs won by a score of 12-9.

Blanchard took the early lead with six runs in the first inning, but Sulphur responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first. 

The Lady Bulldogs would score four in the third followed by a pair of three run innings in the fifth and sixth to eventually claim the victory.

Shallen Mershon went 2-for-3 against Blanchard, finishing the game with four runs scored and three RBI.

Abby Beck and Paisley Runyan each had two RBI in the game, while Blakelyn Barber, Meredith Jones and Kaden Morris had one RBI. 

Sulphur finished its Friday schedule with a high-scoring 22-13 victory over Mangum.

Ally Dixon stole the show offensively in the game for the Lady Bulldogs against Mangum as she hit two home runs, with one of them being a grand slam.

Dixon finished with six total RBI and four runs scored while going 4-for-4 at the plate.

Mershon also had a pair of home runs in the game, while Abby Beck also hit a home run. 

Mershon finished with four RBI and three runs scored while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Beck was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored.

Meredith Jones finished with three RBI in the game while Barber, Runyan and Biley Minor all had two RBI’s.

In the first game of the day on Saturday, Sulphur defeated Washington 10-9. 

Mershon led the offense for Sulphur with three RBI while going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.

Unfortunately, the Valliant Lady Bulldogs handed Sulphur their first defeat of the season by a score of 9-5 on Saturday.

Sulphur did rebound with a second victory of the tournament over Mangum on Saturday, before Valliant once again claimed another victory in the final game, this time by a score of 27-4. 

Sulphur is back in action on March 25.
