Murray State College Professor, Gregory Edwin “Greg” Boyd, 57, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019, from injuries received in an auto accident near Ravia. The son of L. Darrell Boyd and Janie Hamblin Boyd Baldwin, Greg was born June 30, 1961, at Lubbock, Texas.
A beloved professor of mathematics at Murray State College at Tishomingo, and at the University Center of Southern Oklahoma, Greg grew up in the Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas area, graduating from Amarillo High School, the class of 1979; and from West Texas A. & M. University, Canyon, Texas, May 10, 1997 and received his BS and MS in math and physics.
Greg and Melissa Dennise Holley were married July 31, 2002. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and golf.
Staff and students at the colleges were very saddened to learn of the accident and Greg’s death.  His fellow instructor and fishing partner for 22 years, Kirk Rodden commented, “Greg was the kind of professor that every student needed and the kind of academic leader that his colleagues really rely on. If they (students) had a personal problem, had family issues, or even couldn’t buy gas for their car - Greg Boyd was there for them all the time.”
Greg was a leader in the statewide Math Pathways Initiative, which pushes for an academic system that allows the student to take math courses suited for their major. “He was at the forefront of convincing people, yes you can understand math and we’re going to help you get through it,” Rodden said.
