DICKSON — It has often been said that “All that glitters is gold.”

For Dickson Lady Comets track standout Sarah Huhman, her world got a little more golden on Tuesday afternoon.

In front of her family, friends and coaches, the four-time Dickson track state qualifier officially put pen-to-paper on a National Letter of Intent to compete with the University of Central Oklahoma Lady Bronchos track team in Edmond.

The moment capped off an emotional weekend for Huhman, who placed fifth overall at the Class 3A state track meet at Frank McNabb Field in Catoosa.

“It was a little bittersweet for me,” Huhman said about the state track meet. “I was a little disappointed because I came in ranked second and I finished fifth. But at the end of the day, that was one chapter ending and this is the start of a brand new one for me.”

“I am really excited about this opportunity,” Huhman added. “I would have never thought this was possible two months ago. I really feel blessed and I’m excited about what the next four years has to offer for me.”

During her time as a Lady Comets athlete, Huhman was a three-time state qualifier in pole vault, as she also qualified for the mile run during her freshman year.

Huhman added that the opportunity to join UCO’s track team was one that happened because she took a chance and filled out a form.

“I started pole vaulting really good, and I started looking at UCO’s athletes and what they were pole vaulting,” she said. “What I found was that I was doing better than they were, so I just filled out the recruitment form and thought ‘Why not’?, and it just happened to work out for me. I got contacted by Coach (Cody) Sanders within a few days and I admit I screamed for about 10 minutes I was so excited.”

“The campus and the program I want to major in is the best around at UCO,” Huhman added. “Everything there is just amazing and I’m very excited to start this next chapter of my life.”

Sarah plans to major in Medical lab science with a minor in forensics.
