Services with military honors for James Columbus “J.C.” Harris, Jr. of Enville, are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, in the Enville Community Church, Enville, with Rev. Don Keizor officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
The son of James Columbus Harris and Maggie Lee Watkins Harris, J.C. was born June 9, 1930 in Enville. He passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at the Oklahoma Veteran’s Center of Ardmore at the age of 88.
J.C. was a graduate of Burneyville High School, Burneyville. He served two years in the U.S. Army as a member of Company G, 31st Infantry during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1953. For his service he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals, one with Letter “V” device for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the U.S., an Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Medal. After his service in the U.S. Army, J.C. worked 28 years for Vickers/Total Petroleum. Once retired from Total Petroleum, he worked as the District 3 County Commissioner and then went on to work for the State of Oklahoma on a Wildlife Game Reserve. He was a horseman and a farmer of peanuts, pecans, and was well known for his watermelons and cantaloupes. J.C. was an avid hunter, fisherman, tracker and marksman. He loved to play dominoes and “boot scoot.”  J.C. attended Enville Community Church. He was a patriotic man, a devoted son, a helpful neighbor, and a great friend who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.      
J.C. was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Esther Barrick, Reba Teague, Pauline Warthen and Joyce Sharp; one grandson, Ian Harris; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Kerley.
He is survived by four daughters, Pam Kerley of Ardmore, Kathy Kester and husband Regan of Ardmore, Kelly Harris of Enville, and Kim Goss of Enville; 10 grandchildren, Jason Hall, Nikki Hamilton, Jeremy Kerley and wife Melanie, Jennifer Spradling and husband Jeremy, Lindsey Mathews and husband Brandon, Ty Kester and wife Kayla, T.J. Williamson and wife Brook, Kash McAnally and husband Matt, Rachel Ruiz and husband Ron, and Aly Goss; 16 great-grandchildren, Caelyb, Brayton, Emma, Jance, Jackson, Kamryn, Avery, Max, Evan, Mya, Jordan, Jaedyn, Karly, Briar, Keylee and Rylee; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers are his son-in-law and grandchildren. Honorary bearers are Corky and Koweta Cartwright, Johnny Cartwright, Alan Cartwright, Joe Cartwright, Brian Cartwright, Jerry McGill, Lee Scott, Larry Winchester, Jerry Winchester, Richard Cain, Frank Lambert, Jerry Conroy, Jack Campbell, Ralph Page, Randy Caldwell, Chuck Martin, Bob Laures and Jim Cavin.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
