Ardmore police apprehended two alleged fugitives from other states early Friday morning.
At 2 a.m., an officer made a traffic stop at the 200 block of 5th Ave NW due to a broken headlight, said Ardmore Police Department Captain Keith Ingle.
“They probably just stopped him to tell him his headlight was out, ‘You need to get it fixed,’ and then when they identified him, that one subject had a warrant,” Ingle said.
After verifying his identification, officers allegedly discovered that 28-year-old Arthur Romero of Austin, Texas, had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation issued by the state of Texas, Ingle said.
Later that same morning, around 4 a.m., an officer conducted a pedestrian check on two subjects at the 1100 block of N. Commerce, Ingle said.
One of the subjects, 23-year-old Matthew Stevison of Ardmore, was believed to be intoxicated, Ingle said.
“After they identified him, they found out he was wanted out of Louisiana on a warrant and placed into custody,” Ingle said.
Ingle said the reason for Stevison’s warrant is unknown at this time.
Both Stevison and Romero were transported to the Carter County Jail where they are being held until officials from the county that their warrants originated in are able to transport them, Ingle said.
“Wherever they’re from will come pick them up,” Ingle said. “The
department that issued a warrant will come pick him up— that county anyway— the sheriff’s department will come pick him up.”
