Daughter of the late Alvin Horace Roberts and Lula Mae (Walker) Roberts, Darline was born Dec. 12, 1924, at Orr. Following a long and useful life she passed away Monday, June 24, 2019, in Oklahoma City at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 12 days.
A graduate of Marietta High School, Darline met the love of her life and married, W.F. “Bill” Pennington on Aug. 15, 1943. They welcomed a son, Lynn in 1946 and a daughter, Marcia in 1947. Darline and Bill were approaching their 47th wedding anniversary, when Bill passed away, June 22, 1990.
After owning and operating Bill’s Grill with her husband, Darline served the Ardmore Public Schools for 20 years; at Franklin Elementary cafeteria as a cook and manager and later at Will Rogers Elementary, retiring in 1990.
Mamaw’s true joy was the time she spent with her family and friends, traveling and playing cards. As an active member of the TOPS organization, she developed friendships that lasted over 45 years. A life-long and faithful member of the Church of Christ, Darline enjoyed helping the congregation with meals. Her incredible talent as a seamstress and her encouraging nature were a gift to us all.
In addition to her parents and husband, Darline was preceded in death by her son, Frank Lynn Pennington, two brothers, A.W. and Don Roberts, and son-in-law, Ken Cantero.
