Turner — Funeral services for Lone Grove resident, Michael Thomas Hicks, 59, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2019, in the Turner School Auditorium. Burial will follow at the Jimtown Cemetery with the assistance of Merle Callis, Dwight Cavner, Kent Harris, Nolen, Alan and Thomas Hicks serving as pallbearers.

Born Nov. 1, 1959, in Gainesville, Texas, Mike was the son of Manuel Thomas Hicks and Thelma Joyce (Nail) Hicks. Following a valiant battle with brain cancer, Mike passed from this life to his eternal home on July 27, 2019, in an Ardmore hospital.

A graduate of Plainview High School, the class of 1978, Mike later attended East Central University. He and the former Kimberly L. Drown were married Sept. 27, 1986, in Ardmore, and would have celebrated their thirty-third wedding anniversary later this year.

Employed at Michelin Tire Company for many years, Mike was an extrusion technician. He served on the Lone Grove City Council and was Mayor of Lone Grove for many years. He volunteered his time with the city and the Kiwanis Club of Lone Grove. At Lone Grove Days he was crowned the watermelon seed spitting ‘champeen’ of Lone Grove. In his leisure time, Mike could be found riding his Harley or coaching little league baseball.

Mike is survived by his wife, Kim of the home, two sons, Matthew Hicks and his wife Lezlie, of Houston; and Trevor Hicks and wife Julie, of Lone Grove. His mother and step-father, Thelma and Jerry Naylor of Ardmore; brother, Mark Hicks and wife Sheryl, of Springer; sister, Kim Roberts of Ardmore; his grandchildren, Morgan Hicks, JeriAnn and Jentri Riner; as well as his nephews, Ryan, Josh, Ben, Paul, Tommy and Devin; also his brother-in-law, Kevin Drown and wife Amy, and nieces, Aubree and Addison. His father, Manuel Hicks preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers and in Mike’s honor, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Brain Cancer.

Services have been entrusted to Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory, where words of comfort may be sent to the family online at www.hdouglasfuneralhome.com.
