The Texoma Autism and Behavioral Institute will be hosting a fundraiser for United Way of South Central Oklahoma early next week. Dubbed Corks and Convos, the event will allow patrons to create their own works of art while enjoying a glass of wine.
TABI, which is the only school in the region that specializes in working with children on the autistic spectrum, is a United Way partner agency. Because of funding provided through United Way and other donations the school is able to offer scholarships to their students, and tuition is calculated on a sliding scale based on what the parents can afford.
TABI Instructor Lindsey Cram said they are happy to be hosting this fundraiser to help give back to the agency which has given them so much. She added that this event allows the school to showcase some of their talent.
“We just wanted to put together an event based on all of the strengths we have,” Cram said. “The owner of Bar 115 let us use the
location, and we have a behavioral therapist who is a great artist. So we just tried to think of something to combine all of those things, and the event came from there.”
Cram said the artist will be on hand to provide painting instruction and everything needed will be included as part of the ticket price.
“We will provide a canvas, paint, brushes and everything you’ll need to paint your own canvas,” Cram said. “We’ll also have appetizers, finger foods and two glasses of wine included as part of your ticket.”
Cram said those who do not want to create a painting will have the option of crafting a work with their own customized quote.
“Everyone who comes will definitely get to take home their own unique piece of art,” Cram said.
Corks and Convos will take pace at Bar 115 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 5. Tickets are $40 and include appetizers, two glasses of wine and everything to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art. All proceeds will go to United Way of South Central Oklahoma.
