Delbert Leon Bailey, 87, of Duncan, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at the Eastside Church of Christ with Ron Stough officiating. Interment will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan.
Family will receive guests on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Delbert was born on Nov. 8, 1931, in Woodlawn Community, northeast of Duncan, to Oscar and Hazel Bailey. He was the youngest of their five children.
He served his country in the US Army Corps of Engineers stationed in Japan. After returning home, he met his bride of 54 years, Cleta, at Herman’s Drive-In. They married on May 1, 1956, and resided in Loco where they raised their four children. He worked for Sutherland Well Service for many years as a derrick hand, then as an operator and tool pusher. Then after retiring, they moved to Duncan.
Delbert liked to tinker and could make something useful out of nothing, such as when he turned a weedeater handle into a walking cane. He also liked puzzles, watching westerns, and telling his grandkids what it was like to live in the ‘olden’ days. He had the Bailey sense of humor that occasionally got him into trouble with his wife. He was a longtime member of the church family at the Velma Church of Christ and then at the Eastside Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sisters, Eloise and Marguerite, and his brothers, Rayburn and T.O. (Orton). He is survived by his four children, Cleon, Delda and husband, Roger, Shawn and wife, Paula, and Cloretta; his three grandchildren, Ian, Hannah, and Mikayla; in-laws, Lee, Brenda and husband, Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
