An Ardmore man was taken into custody after officers allegedly observed him throwing a woman and her child to the ground Saturday.

Ardmore Police Department Detective Matt Miller said officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Rustic Dr. NW around 5:20 p.m. in reference to a domestic disturbance.

“From what we gathered from dispatch, a male and female were fighting,” Miller said. “Once officers arrived, the victim and her small child attempted to leave the residence.”

Miller said the 35-year-old suspect grabbed a hold of the 28-year-old mother as she was attempting to leave. “The suspect grabbed ahold of the female victim, picked her up and then slammed her back down on the ground,” Miller said.

The mother and her 3-year-old child had minor scrapes and cuts, Miller said. After officers saw the incident, they restrained the suspect and transported him to the Carter County Jail.

Miller said the 35-year-old man is facing complaints for domestic assault and battery in the presence of a child, as well as child abuse.
