A Healdton man is facing charges for five counts of animal abuse, whereas several dogs and pigeons were reportedly injured and killed.
According to Carter County court documents filed Aug. 26 and signed by District Attorney Craig Ladd, Brandon Lee Hunt, 22, allegedly “willfully and cruelly” injured multiple animals by depriving them of food and water at his residence, located off of Industrial Rd.
Three of the dogs reportedly died from the conditions, including a black lab mix, a small black and white dog, and a small brown and black terrier mix.
Numerous other dogs and pigeons were found extremely emaciated and malnourished, according to court documents. Several pigeons reportedly died from the conditions as well.
Each count of animal cruelty is punishable by a fine up to $5,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both. A court docket date is set for Oct. 3, 2019.
According to court documents filed on the same day, Hunt is also facing an additional charge for illegal possession of wildlife not legally taken. Previous court records show that Hunt pled not guilty for larceny of domestic animals in Jan. 2019 and the case was later dismissed.
