DICKSON — So far during the course of district play this season, victories have been hard to come by for the Dickson Lady Comets and Marietta Lady Indians. 

Thursday afternoon, the ladies in blue decided to turn their fortunes around.

Dickson opened with a six run first inning and never looked back as the Lady Comets got their first district win of the season with a 12-2 victory in five innings at Lady Comet Field.

The win moved Dickson to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in district play, while Marietta dropped to 3-9 and 0-5 in district play.

Kaylie Douglass got Marietta on the board first though in the top of the first with an RBI single to right field, before the Lady Indians made it 2-0 with a run scored on a wild pitch.

Dickson though had a quick response.

Lacie Winchester made it 2-1 when she scored on a throwing error, before the game was tied thanks to Emily Nogueira scoring on a wild pitch. 

Alyssa Warren gave the Lady Comets the lead at 3-2 with an RBI double, before Makenna Day slapped an RBI single to center field.

Day would later score on a throwing error to make it 5-2, before Gracie Idleman finished off the inning with an RBI single to left.

Day would strike again in the bottom of the second with a two-RBI double to make it 8-2, before making it 9-2 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. 

Kourtney Clark got a sacrifice fly RBI before Idleman finished off the inning in the fourth with an RBI.

Nogueira helped bring home Winchester for the winning run in the fifth when she laid down a bunt which resulted in a throwing error.

Shelby Beard got the win on the mound for Dickson, throwing five innings of work. She allowed four hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Douglass took the loss on the mound for Marietta, allowing 11 hits with one walk. 

Dickson is back at home Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Marlow, while Marietta is at home on Tuesday against Comanche.
