This week has seen an unusual trend happen for the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs, as they have played a pair of district doubleheaders.

This week has seen an unusual trend happen for the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs, as they have played a pair of district doubleheaders.

Fortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, it hasn’t tampered with their success, as they picked up two more district wins on Thursday at home against the Riverside Lady Braves.

The wins move Sulphur to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in district play.

Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is a game against Plainview this afternoon at 4 p.m. at home, followed by a rematch with Lexington on Tuesday on the road. 

Game one

For a slight moment in the opening game, it looked like the Lady Braves were going to cause some trouble for Sulphur.

That was until the fourth inning.

A nine-run offensive explosion put the game out of reach as the Lady Bulldogs claimed the run-rule victory in the first game.

The game was tied at 1-1 following the first inning, before Sulphur took the lead with one run in the bottom of the third.

Sulphur though made sure a rally wasn’t possible as the Lady Bulldogs scored nine runs in the fourth inning.

Macenzie Ruth finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI’s in the game, while Kady Lynch, Abby Beck, Shallen Mershon, Kinlee Duck and Harley Beesley each had one RBI in the game.

Owen West got the win on the mound for Sulphur, throwing four innings. She allowed one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts.

Game two was more cut and dry from the beginning as Sulphur used a pair of six run innings to end the game early in three innings.

Blakelyn Barber led the offense for Sulphur going 1-for-2 with two RBI’s while Meredith Jones was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI. 

Kinlee Duck also went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Harley Beesley was 1-for-2 with one RBI. 

Shallen Mershon also had one RBI in the game for Sulphur.

Beesley got the win on the mound, throwing three innings. She totaled five strikeouts while not allowing any hits or walks.
