History was the theme of the night on Friday at Blake Smiley Stadium in Madill.

For the Wildcats, it was their first game on a brand new artificial turf surface.

But for the Lone Grove Longhorns, their history was of a different sort as the Longhorns defeated the Wildcats 22-20 in overtime, marking the first time in more than 15 years Lone Grove has started a season 3-0.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Longhorns opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run in the second from Cooper Robinson.

Colton Jones then sent his team into the locker room with a 14-0 lead after finding Gavin Peery for a two-yard touchdown pass to close out the first half.

Neither team could generate any points in the third quarter, as the Wildcats came to life in the fourth.

Asa Robertson cut the deficit to 14-7 when he scored a touchdown on a 40-yard punt return, before John Venable tied the game with a four-yard touchdown run, sending the game to overtime.

Lone Grove scored the first touchdown of overtime thanks to Robinson, but it was the two-point conversion from Caden Gilmore which proved to be the difference.

Mateo Fajardo got a touchdown for Madill in the overtime period off a two-yard run, but the ensuing two-point conversion failed, giving the Longhorns the victory.

Jones finished the game with 72 yards passing.

Lone Grove (3-0) is off until Sept. 27 when the Longhorns open district play against Pauls Valley, while the Wildcats (0-2) will host Dickson at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
