There’s plenty of excitement in Lone Grove right now for the Longhorns football team.

There’s plenty of excitement in Lone Grove right now for the Longhorns football team.

Of course it isn’t without a solid reason aside from the normal circumstances.

For the first time since 1995, the Longhorns are 3-0 on the season, and on a roll entering district play.

At 7:30 p.m. tonight at Lone Grove, the Longhorns will try and take the first step towards a postseason berth as they take on the Pauls Valley Panthers in the district opener for both teams.

Lone Grove was spared having to endure the rain last week as the Longhorns were on a scheduled bye week, while Pauls Valley is 1-2 on the season after falling against Jones 43-7 on Sept. 13.

Last season when these two teams met it was the Panthers winning 36-22 in Pauls Valley.

When the Panthers last came to Lone Grove in 2017, they managed to escape with a 48-36 victory.

The last time a Longhorns team defeated Pauls Valley was in the opening round of the playoffs in 2015 when Lone Grove won 62-28 in Lone Grove.

That game was also the last time Lone Grove defeated the Panthers on their home field at Longhorn Stadium.
