Coming into the state cheer finals this season, the Sulphur varsity Co-Ed squad knew exactly what to expect.

Sulphur made its ninth straight appearance at the state cheer finals Saturday morning as it took place at the Mabee Center on the campus of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.

In the end, Sulphur managed to crack the top-five of the standings once again, finishing in fourth place overall with a total of 223 points.

Sulphur nearly got its hands on the state runner-up spot as Oklahoma Christian had 227 points with Blackwell in third at 226 points.

Newkirk claimed the state title with a sold performance of 261 points.

Sulphur did manage to place higher than regional champion Pauls Valley, who was fifth as well as Bridge Creek and Sperry High School.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this group for the way they performed today,” Sulphur coach Destiny Baker said. “They hit their routine so well and that’s all I can ever ask of them to do at state.”
