Ardmore police engaged in a high speed pursuit, reaching speeds greater than 80 mph on residential streets early Sunday morning.

Ardmore Police Department Capt. Keith Ingle said officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Nissan Altima for reckless driving around 3:30 a.m. However, officers were allegedly led on two separate pursuits after a passenger got out of the vehicle and the driver fled the scene.

Ingle said the 21-year-old passenger from Sulphur threw a firearm on the ground and after a short foot chase was apprehended for obstructing an officer.

The driver was not apprehended. However, Ingle said officers later located the suspect’s vehicle after receiving word that the driver had crashed into a residence located at the 500 block of 8th St. NW.

The collision caused an extensive amount of damage to both the residence and the vehicle, estimated to be around $2,000 in total. No injuries were reported, Ingle said.

The investigation is ongoing, Ingle said. However, officers believe they have identified the driver and are in the process of filing a warrant of arrest for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in damage to fixtures, he said.
