Coming into the regional tournament, the Ringling Lady Blue Devils knew they were going to have to pull off an upset to stay alive.

Mission accomplished.

While the Lady Devils might have lost their second game of the day Thursday against No. 11 Sterling, they managed to blank the No. 7 Carnegie Lady Wildcats to stay alive.

Ringling will take on Carnegie again today at Noon, and will then need to defeat Sterling twice to advance to the state tournament.

Ringling 4
Carnegie 0

Slow and steady set the pace in the first game for Ringling, as well as the pitching of Meghan Roberts.

Roberts was brilliant on the mound as she allowed just four hits with 14 strikeouts in the upset victory over Carnegie.

Kelsea Thompson gave Ringling the lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI double to left field, which scored Steelie Price.

Thompson struck again in the bottom of the fourth when she got another RBI single which scored Price again.

Price then made her own mark on the game with a bunt in the bottom of the sixth which scored Sydney Southward on an error.

Rayme Tolliver then scored Price on a sacrifice bunt RBI.

Sterling 8
Ringling 2

Things didn’t go quite as planned the second time around for Ringling, as the Lady Tigers from Sterling used a balanced offensive attack to win in the winners bracket game.

Sterling scored two runs in the third and fourth innings, before adding three more in the fifth.

Steele Price managed to get Ringling on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single which scored Meghan Roberts, before Rayme Tolliver made it 7-2 with an RBI single to center.

However, the Lady Tigers ensured a rally wasn’t to be as the Lady Tigers scored a run in the top of the seventh to seal the game.

Roberts took the loss on the mound, throwing a complete game. She allowed three earned runs on nine hits with two walks and one strikeout in the game against the Lady Tigers.

Ringling now stands at  17-11 overall after the first day of the regional tournament.
