KINGSTON — For the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs, 2016 might as well be an eternity ago.

While it has only been three years, that’s the amount of time it’s been since the Lady Bulldogs have gotten to make the state fast pitch softball tournament.

Thursday, Sulphur took two massive steps forward to possibly ending that drought.

The Lady Bulldogs rolled to a pair of victories over Chandler and Kingston on the first day of the regional

tournament, putting them one win away from the state tournament.

Sulphur will await the winner of the Kingston/Chandler game at 2 p.m. today where a win will send the Lady Bulldogs to the state tournament next week in Shawnee. An if necessary game would be played at 4 p.m. if Sulphur should lose.

Meredith Jones got the Lady Bulldogs on the board in the top of the first with a two-RBI single which scored Makella Mobly and Macenzie Ruth.

Kinlee Duck then made it 3-0 with an RBI single to right field later in the inning.

Jones struck again in the top of the second when her sacrifice fly scored Ruth, before Mobly was ruled safe at home on a fielder’s choice to make it 5-0.

Chandler tried to rally with two runs in the bottom of the second, but Sulphur had a response.

Jones got another RBI hit in the top of the fourth, this one a single which scored Ruth, before Mobly scored on an error to make it 7-2.

Duck would then draw a bases loaded walk which scored Shallen Mershon to make it 8-2, before Harley Beesley slapped a two-RBI single to right which scored Hailey Keith and Abby Beck.

Mobly and Ruth then combined to make it 12-2 after an error allowed Duck to score, followed by an RBI single from Ruth.

Kady Lynch had the final word, or slam in the game as she launched a home run to left which which rang off the foul pole to make it a 13-2 score.

Chandler got one run in the bottom of the fifth, but wouldn’t get any closer.

Jones finished the game 2-for-3 with one run scored and four total RBI’s.

Blakelyn Barber got the win on the mound for Sulphur, throwing five innings. She allowed two earned runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
