After an 0-3 start to the season, there were some that weren’t giving the Dickson Comets much of a chance as they entered district play.

Two games later, the Comets are playing with house money in the district standings.

For the second straight game Friday night the Comets offense exploded, scoring 54 points as Dickson moved to 2-0 in district play with a 54-7 blowout over Marietta at McClain Stadium.

In the first quarter, Keshon Johnson got the Comets on the board with a two-yard rushing touchdown, before Dickson got a 36-yard punt return for a touchdown to close out the quarter.

Rusty Beard took over in the second quarter as he got two touchdowns of three and 12-yards out to make it a 28-0 lead for the Comets.

Johnny Smith continued his recent hot streak as he scored from eight yards out to send the Comets into the locker room ahead 35-0.

Tommy Millsap then got in on the action in the third as he scored from two yards out, before Johnson got another touchdown, this time from 10-yards out to make it 48-0 after the missed extra point.

Smith finished off the game in the fourth with a 30-yard touchdown run, before Marietta scored its first points of the season thanks to a 19-yard touchdown pass from Albert Florez III to Gary Arthur with Javier Serrano connecting for the extra point. 

Beard finished the game 9-of-16 passing for 98 yards and one interception, while rushing the ball 10 times for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith finished the game with 16 carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns, while Johnson totaled 12 carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns. 

Dickson will return home at 7:30 p.m. Friday night for a matchup against the Davis Wolves, who lost to Lindsay 20-14 Friday night.
