While the Madill Wildcats might have started the district schedule 0-2, they found their groove last week against Harrah on the road.

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Blake Smiley Stadium, the Wildcats will hope to capture lightning in a bottle again as they host the Blanchard Lions in a District 4A-2 contest.

These two teams enter with identical 2-4 overall records and 1-2 district records.

A victory for the Wildcats would put them right back in the mix for a playoff spot, as they currently sit in fifth place behind Cushing for the last postseason place.

“Blanchard is a well coached team,” Madill coach Todd Vargas said. “We’re going to need to play well in every aspect of the game in order to win this game.”

“A short week effects everyone the same way,” Vargas added. “It’s pretty much an even playing field. Our biggest thing is taking the momentum we earned from our win against Harrah and make sure we have some great days of preparation leading up to this game.”

Last week the Wildcats broke a two-game losing streak with a convincing 33-6 victory over the Harrah Panthers on the road, while the Lions dropped a close game at home against Tecumseh by a score of 28-26.

Last year when these two teams met in Blanchard, it was a rough night at the office for the Wildcats who were defeated 55-6.
