While it may not even be Halloween just yet, the holiday season is just around the corner. And in Ardmore that means it’s almost time for the 24th Annual Chigger Chase. This year the event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 and will feature a 5K, a one mile, two shorter races for children and other fun events.

While registration is open now and through the day of the event itself, only those who register by Thursday, Oct. 31 are guaranteed the official 2019 t-shirt and can take advantage of team registration discounts.

Nancy Sjulin, event co-chair, said one of the new events for 2019 is a special mascot run that will take place before the children’s runs.

“We’ve invited all the high schools and several other businesses with mascots to bring them out for a fun run,” Sjulin said. “They’re going to have a 20-yard dash and then stick around for the children’s run to encourage them and help make everything a little more festive and fun.”

She added this year a special guest will be participating in the 5K.

“We’re so excited to announce that Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell will be participating,” Sjulin said. “Earlier this year when were were named Chickasaw Country’s best run or ride he was there to give us the award. He’s a runner, so of course we invited him. I also went ahead and did a formal invitation through his website, and I just heard back last week that he has accepted and he will be here.”

Sjulin said during the race, anyone who wins the “Chigger Challenge” by beating the speedy chigger will get a special prize courtesy of presenting sponsor Ardmore Institute of Health. Those swift enough to complete the race before the chigger will receive a special pair of Chigger Chase running socks.

Sjulin said she encourages everyone to attend the event and help support Regional Park.

“All of the proceeds raised will go to Ardmore Regional Park, and we know how much everybody enjoys everything the park has to offer,” Sjulin said. “We’ve got major projects going on with construction of the Clubhouse, and more things to come in the future."
