Pulling double duty as a head coach is nothing new when it comes to small school basketball in Oklahoma.   Springer’s Caleb Fulton got his first dose of doing the feat Friday night at Walker Gymnasium.   Fulton stood on the bench in charge of both the Springer Cardinals and Lady Cardinals, as the teams opened their respective seasons for 2019-2020.   In the girls contest, the Lady Cardinals were defeated by a score of 42-28.   Despite holding a 12-10 lead after the first quarter, the Lady Cardinals couldn’t maintain the lead as Milburn took a 19-15 advantage into the halftime break.   Springer’s girls were outscored 23-13 in the second half.   Kailee Lathum led the way for the Lady Cardinals with 14 points in the game, with Cadence Shelly scoring 10 points.   It was a different result for the Cardinals, who claimed a comfortable 76-49 victory over Milburn.   Springer came out on fire in the first quarter scoring 33 points while holding Milburn to just eight.   Another dominant quarter before halftime saw the Cardinals outscore Milburn 22-10, before ending the game with a 21-13 run in the second half.   Mickey Hunnicutt led the way for the Cardinals with 33 points in the game, followed by Malik Brown with 20 points.   Nathan Garrett finished with eight points and Reagan Benn scored seven points.   Springer will host Victory Life Academy Tuesday night at Walker Gymnasium with games set to begin at 6:30 p.m. for the girls followed by the boys at 8 p.m.
