After showing they were among the best small co-ed cheer teams in the state earlier this year, the Sulphur cheer team took it to another level on Saturday.   Sulphur managed to claim second place at the Class 4A Game Day State Competition, which was held at the Moore High School Activity Center.   Following the preliminary competition round, Sulphur sat in third place overall with a total of 542 points which was behind Bethany at 558 and Inola at 557.   But when it came to the finals, the red and white showed up in a big way.   Sulphur scored 160 in the Fight Song/Band Dance category, which was just eight points off the pace set by Bethany.   Despite having the third highest point total of the first round in the finals, Sulphur managed to tie Bethany for the highest point score in the Crowd Leading category with 165.   Sulphur managed to edge out Inola by two points for the state runner-up trophy.   But that wasn’t the only hardware the team left with on the day.   In addition, Sulphur was named as the Class 4A Academic State Champions, after accumulating the highest team GPA out of their classification.
