An Ardmore man is facing complaints for exploitation of an elderly person by a caregiver after allegedly obtaining a large sum of cash from a bank account belonging to his father.

According to Carter County court documents filed Nov. 18, Bryan Dean Burch, 58, is accused of withdrawing over $50,000 from his elderly father’s bank account over the course of almost a year, from Sept. 2018 to Oct. 2019.

Ardmore Police Department Capt. Eric Hamblin said Adult Protective Services notified the department of the situation, whereas officers further discovered that Burch’s father allegedly suffers from dementia.

Court documents state that Burch’s father “lacked the capacity to consent” to such withdrawals from his bank account due to his medical condition.

If found guilty, Burch faces a fine of up to $10,000 or imprisonment up to 15 years, or both imprisonment and a fine. An initial appearance is set for Dec. 3, 2019.
