WILSON — While Thursday might not have been a typical defensive performance this season from the Lone Grove Lady Horns, they certainly won’t argue with the result. Lone Grove had a pair of players finish in double figures as the Lady Horns moved to 3-0 on the season with a 57-44 victory over the Dickson Lady Comets JV squad at the Wilson Black and Gold Classic tournament. The Dickson JV was a late replacement for the Ringling Lady Blue Devils in the tournament. In the first quarter, the Lady Comets certainly made life difficult for the Lady Horns as they matched them shot for shot. After tying the game at 3-3 at the 5:21 mark of the first quarter, Dickson appeared poised to take the lead. But it was the Lady Horns who would finish the first quarter on a 13-10 run to lead 16-13 going to the second. Lone Grove began to take control before the end of the first half as the Lady Horns held the Lady Comets to just four points in the second, while scoring 11 of their own. The trend continued after the break as the Lady Horns went on a 19-10 run to lead 46-27 going to the fourth. An 11-9 run by the Lady Horns ended the game down the stretch. Lydia Saavedra led Lone Grove with 15 points in the game followed by Cheyanne Davis with 14 points. Malea McMurtrey scored seven points with Anna Black putting in six points for Lone Grove. Ashley Clem led Dickson with 18 points followed by Chesleigh Apala with 10 points. Payton Eubank scored seven points in the game for the Lady Comets.
