LONE GROVE — If there’s one lesson the No. 20 Lone Grove Lady Horns learned Tuesday night, it’s that when you have a ranking, expect to get everyone’s best effort against you.

LONE GROVE — If there’s one lesson the No. 20 Lone Grove Lady Horns learned Tuesday night, it’s that when you have a ranking, expect to get everyone’s best effort against you.   Despite 23 points from Makayla Smith, the Dickson Lady Comets weren’t able to pull off the upset, as the Lady Horns moved to 6-0 on the season with a thrilling 56-53 victory in double overtime at the Gary Scott Center.   Both teams came out strong in the first quarter, as they combined for 25 points and multiple lead changes in the first eight minutes.   Dickson went into the second with a narrow 14-11 lead, but saw it quickly evaporate when Lone Grove took a 17-16 lead with 2:22 left before halftime.   It took just 20 seconds though for Dickson to get back in front at 18-17, before the Lady Comets eventually took a 22-19 lead into the halftime break.   The Lady Comets appeared to have the momentum and the upper hand as they stayed in front for the better part of the third quarter.   But with 4:25 left in the third, Lone Grove was back in front at 31-29, before it was tied at 31-31.   It was Lone Grove who eventually grabbed a 37-35 advantage going to the fourth quarter.   Down the stretch, both teams had chances to pull away and win the game in regulation.   Ultimately though, the game went to overtime nodded up at 43 apiece.   In the first extra session, both teams traded the lead throughout the four minute period.   Lone Grove appeared to have won the game with a 49-48 lead with just 53 seconds left in the first overtime.   However, the Lady Comets managed to tie the game at 49-49 with 49 seconds left, as the game went to a double overtime.   There were multiple ties and lead changes in the second overtime, but Lone Grove managed to outscore the Lady Comets 7-4 to win the game and stay unbeaten.   Cheyanne Davis led the Lady Horns with 18 points followed by Lydia Saavedra with 13 points.   Maili Coe scored eight points along with Anna Black for Lone Grove.   Jadyn Williams put in nine points for Dickson with Ashlen Clem scoring six points.   Dickson is back in action Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the Ronnie Moore Invitational in Marietta against the Ardmore JV, while Lone Grove is off until Jan. 7 when the Lady Horns host Sulphur.
