TURNER — Throughout the years, the Fox basketball teams have found plenty of success at the South Central Conference tournament. If Thursday is any indication, Fox might be in for a successful weekend. Both the Lady Foxes and the No. 17 Foxes claimed comfortable victories in their opening round contests at Turner High School, moving them into the semifinals this evening. Girls Fox 64 Mill Creek 38 While Mill Creek might be new to the SCC tournament, the Lady Foxes are seasoned veterans of the occasion. The difference showed in spades Thursday afternoon as the Lady Foxes had three players in double figures, which led to a comfortable victory. Defense was the name of the game for the Lady Foxes in the first quarter as they held the Lady Bullfrogs to just three points over the first eight minutes. Offense wasn’t a problem for Fox as it built a 25-3 advantage. A 12-9 second quarter padded the lead for the Lady Foxes, who led 37-12 at the break. Fox put the game away in the third quarter with 22 points, while holding Mill Creek to just 10 points, before Fox was outscored 16-5 in the fourth. Jada Newhouse led Fox with 17 points followed by Bree Phelps with 16 points and Maci Rodriguez with 13 points. Boys Fox 57 Paoli 15 If there was ever such a thing as an easy day at the office, the No. 17 Fox Foxes got it on Thursday. Fox led wire-to-wire as the Foxes moved to 10-0 on the season with a blowout victory over the Pugs. Paoli managed just two points in the first quarter as the Foxes led 12-2 going to the second. Fox kept up its defensive pressure before halftime, limiting the Pugs to just two points while scoring 27 of its own to lead 39-4 going to the break. Things slowed down in the third quarter as Fox outscored the Pugs 8-5, before finishing the game on a 10-6 run. Drew Martin led the scoring for Fox with 19 points followed by David Martin with 10 points.
