In their continuing quest for progress as a team and as individuals, the Ardmore wrestling squad decided to make a trip to Dallas, Texas this weekend. A total of seven wrestlers competed for the Tigers at the Trojan Classic, which was held at Euless Trinity High School in the heart of the DFW Metroplex. Ardmore managed to have four wrestlers make the podium after the weekend, which had a total of 68 teams from three states competing. “I feel like our wrestlers did well,” Ardmore coach Devin Martinez said. “We’re constantly striving to get better though. We go to tournaments like these so we can face some different competition.” “We might have brought only seven wrestlers, but we still managed to place in the top 15 overall with more than 60 teams here,” Martinez added. “We’re feeling pretty good about that and we hope to keep improving off of it. Everything we are doing right now is building towards the regional tournament and then onto the state tournament. I’m very blessed to be the coach of the Ardmore wrestling team right now and these kids are building a lot of character and improving everyday.” Greg Booker was the top finisher for the Ardmore Tigers this weekend as he placed second overall in the 170 weight class, with Oscar Interiano placing fourth overall in the 138 pound division. Jesse Battice placed sixth overall at 126, with Cameron Orr claiming fifth in the 106 division. Jaylin Wright also competed this weekend at 160, while Gavin Hobbs competed at 195 and Phillip Fenti competed in the heavyweight division. Ardmore will host McAlester tonight in dual action.
