Dr. Walt Spradling will officiate at the funeral services for long-time Southern Oklahoman, Manie Lee Darter at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the assistance of her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Manie Lee Darter was born Sept. 7, 1933, at Coleman, Okla., to the late Dennis and Mary Jane (Tipton) Dean. Manie grew up on a farm in Coleman with her four siblings. It was there that she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was baptized in the Blue River.

Manie and the love of her life, Donald Darter, were married in 1948 at Sherman, Texas. She and Donald moved to Ardmore, where she began her life-long career in the restaurant business and where her sons, Larry and Tommy Darter, the pride and joy of her life, were born.

She enjoyed summers with her family at Lake Murray; motorcycling from Florida to Las Vegas and all over the Northwest. An avid sports fan, Manie enjoyed feeding and entertaining her Ardmore Tiger football players after their practices. Her favorite sports teams were the OU Sooners and Dallas Cowboys football teams, and the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder basketball teams. During her waitressing years she acquired many friends, and never met a stranger.

Manie passed from life to life everlasting, Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at the age of 86 years, three months and six days.

In addition to her parents, Manie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her stepfather, Frank Cole; brother, J.C. Dean and wife Coy; and brother-in-law, Jackie Callen.

Survivors, that will forever cherish precious memories, include, her two sons and wives, Larry and Hazel Darter, of Springer, Tommy and Cathy Darter, of Boerne, Texas; daughter-in-law, Diane Darter of Ardmore; brother, Delton Dean and wife Lue, of Coleman; sisters, Anna McArthur and husband Richard, of Tishomingo, and Janie Callen of Milburn; also grandchildren, Chad Darter, Clint Darter and Courtney Darter Bruc,e of Boerne, Texas; Larry Darter, Jr., and Jason Darter, of Ardmore, and Deidra Darter Reynolds of McKinney, Texas; her step-grandchildren, Jeremy Ross of Springer, and Stephanie Ross Lee of Lone Grove; 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends a special "Thank You" to the staff at Woodview Nursing Home and Cross Timbers Hospice, “for your love and care of our Manie."

The family will host a time of visitation and support this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online at www.hdouglasfuneralhome.com.
