J.H. "Jay" Hayes

Thackerville - Graveside services for J.H. "Jay" Hayes, 83, of Thackerville, OK, will be Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery, in Marietta, OK, with Pastor Brett Alberda officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.

J.H. was born July 25, 1937, in Loves Valley, Marietta, OK the son of Ruth Berniece (Cartwright) and Jeff Henry "Butch" Hays. He passed away January 14, 2021 at North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville, TX.

J.H. grew up in Love County and graduated with the Marietta Class of 1956. He married the love of his life Myrna Lavon "Cookie" Alexander on October 25, 1957. They just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. After high school, J.H. continued his education at the A & P Mechanics school in Ft. Worth, TX and was hired at Central Airlines. They relocated him to Denver, CO later changing to Frontier Airlines and eventually Continental Airlines. J.H. worked for 37 years in Colorado for Continental then transferred to Hobby Airport in Houston, TX where he retired in 2003. They moved back to Marietta to enjoy retirement.

J.H. was a rodeo man and wholeheartedly loved roping. It was his passion. He enjoyed other outdoor activities such as tending to his cows and horses, fishing and camping. J.H. was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta and has served as Deacon since 2014. J.H. was a Swine Leader for 4-H, during the time his son participated. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 40 years and the Cattleman's Club for 20 years. He enjoyed attending meetings, volunteering for both organizations, and cooking for the large gatherings they hosted. J.H. was a very strong willed and caring man who loved his family life.

Survivors include his wife, Cookie of the home; son, Tommy Hayes and wife Sherri of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, Bailee Mavroulis and husband Cameron of Ft. Worth and Kennedy Murdock and husband Kory of Ft. Worth; great-grandchildren, Cambree, Bo and Cooper Mavroulis; and sister-in-law, Pam Sampson of Marietta.

J.H. was preceded in death by son, Roger LaDell Hayes in 1964; sisters, JoNell Carey and Melva Graves; and brother Jackie Lee Hayes.

Casket bearers are Cameron Mavroulis, Kory Murdock, Kevin Hartman, and Mike Sampson. Honorary bearers are Richard Quisenberry, Jim Hill, Mike Buxton, Brett Alberda, and Bill Dvorak.

The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the Eastside Baptist Church of Marietta General Fund.

Time of visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
