Barbara Walker passed with peace and grace on January 23, 2021, at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husband Colonel Bill Walker in 2013. Survived by sons William and Robert Walker, and daughters Deborah Janet and Laura Markwardt; grandchildren: Jenn, Jessica, Szai Janet, Julia Griego, Kyle and Kaylee Walker, Taylor Hunter, and Brooke and Ashley Horton; and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Carolyn Ann Keeling Farmer, and her daughter Susan Horton.
Barbara grew up in Odessa, Texas, attended Texas Western in 1954 where she received her Bachelors of Art in English. She married Bill in 1955 and they started a family. She was an English teacher briefly, but then decided to throw her energies into raising their children. Barbara, Bill, and their children traveled the world with the United States Air Force. In addition to their many travels, she became a harlequin romance novelist in the 1980s – she published 20 books. She was the most gentle, selfless, and kind person one could know; a remarkable woman that anyone would aspire to be like. Her intellect and wit were unmatched, she enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle and reading novels. She will be always remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and whose greatest passion was helping those around her.
A service will be held at Craddock Funeral Home, 525 S Commerce St, Ardmore, Oklahoma on January 29th at 2:00 pm. With Pastor Bailey Scmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the Veterans section of Rose Hill Cemetery.
She leaves us rich in memories.
