Joseph Day Jr.
Ardmore - Joseph "Thad" Day Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 29, 2021. Thad was born on October 18, 1932 in Ardmore, OK to Joseph Thad Day Sr. and Carrah Elizabeth McGinnis. Thad was the 9th of 10 children born to his parents.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers J.C., Ben, and George, sisters Lorene Jennings, Marie Hunter, Betty Landreth, Nona Buck, Ruby Smith, and an infant sister.
Thad married Jerri Marie Stubblefield on October 8, 1960. They were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this past October. God blessed Thad and Jerri with three children, Roger Thad Day, Kristi Annette Reed and Rodney James Day.
Thad graduated from Ardmore High School in 1951 and received a full scholarship to play football at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He earned his Bachelor's. degree from East Central in 1955.
Thad joined the Army in 1956, was sent to Fort Sill in Lawton, OK. While there, he made the Football team and played two years.
In 1958, after playing for the Army, Thad went to work for the Ardmore Air Force Base as a draftsman. In 1959 he started his own concrete business, "Day Concrete and Block Company" which remained as a family business for 60 years.
Thad accepted the Lord as his Savior when he was 12 years old at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ardmore, OK. To date, Thad holds the longest membership of the church, 76 years.
Thad is survived by his wife, Jerri, of the home; two sons Roger and his wife Jill, Rod and his wife Marci; daughter, Kristi and her husband Mark Reed; grandchildren Justin Day, Eryn Denewellis and husband Nick, Jake and Kaylynn Reed, Jessica Reed, Tyler Day, Kerra Elliott and husband Creed; great grandchildren, Zoey Day, Grant and Layni Kate Denewellis, Claire Reed, Owen Day and Brock Elliott; and numerous family and friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday morning at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Donny Custar officiating. Due to Covid 19 the family will have a visitation all day on Monday to prevent having a large gathering. The family will be at the funeral home Monday between 5:00 and 6:00 pm for those who want to meet with them. Masks and social distancing will be required.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Tyler Day, Jake Reed, Justin Day, Creed Elliott and Nick Denewellis.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be left to Emmanuel Baptist Church building fund.
