Dorothy L. Barrett Skinner

Dorothy Lometa Barrett was born June 9, 1928, to Lillian Plummer Barrett and Garnet William Barrett in Moran, Texas. Dorothy was saved, at age 9, and was baptized in the Blue Hole near Garner, Texas. She was a loving and faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. Her witness ensured all her children and grand-children knew about Jesus. Dorothy entered her heavenly home at 11:59p.m., February 14, 2021

Dorothy grew up in West Texas and graduated from High School in Seminole, Texas in 1944. She began working for the phone company and 2 years later met her future husband when he entered the office to pay his phone bill.

Dorothy married H.O. (Neil) Skinner on the 23rd of November 1946. Neil worked for Mobile Pipeline and Dorothy stayed home to raise three girls until the youngest was school age. She worked at Mercy Memorial Hospital for over 25 years as an aide, unit secretary, front desk manager of the Outpatient Clinic and front desk manager of Oncology. They moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in the summer of 1969. Dorothy and Neil traveled extensively to Europe and Scotland. They were faithful members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. After 39 years of marriage, Neil passed away in 1986.

After her retirement, her best friend June Maddox and Dorothy owned and operated Pat Walker Exercise Salon in downtown Ardmore. They both were members of First Baptist Church Ardmore, the Adult Choir, and Keenage Choir. Together they traveled, to Mexico and Europe. The both of them were always ready for a new adventure.

Dorothy married Fredrick W. Houston 2004. He passed on March 17, 2012. Dorothy was a resident of The Lodge in Ardmore, Oklahoma and two years at Brookhaven Extensive Care in Norman, OK. Dorothy was a living witness of God's love to all she encountered. She impacted many caregivers with her kind words and encouragement. She was a might prayer warrior and read scripture to anyone who entered her room. She was full of love and always saw the best in people.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Neil Skinner, husband Fred Houston, her sisters Mary, Garnell, Charlotte, her brother John, son-in-law Joe Garrett, and best friend June Maddox.

Dorothy is survived by her brother Richard Barrett of New York, her daughters Sandi Garrett of Edmond, Kim and Dennis Stone of Norman, Patti and Bill Green of Overbrook, OK, Step-daughters Becky and Danielle Houston, and Step-Son Sam and Anne Houston of Raleigh, N. Carolina. She is blessed with 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 20, 2021, 10:00 AM in the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10 prior to service. Online condolences may be made at For those unable to attend the service, we will have a live feed at
