Southern Oklahoma native, Troy Gaither, 79, went to his heavenly reward Tuesday, April 20, 2021, from Mercy Health of Love County. Troy, son of the late Dale and Fay Nell (Jackson) Gaither, was born February 5, 1942 at Wilson, Oklahoma.
Troy grew up in Wilson and was a graduate of Wilson High School, the class of 1960. He and the former Judith Scarberry were married January 12, 1962 at Wilson. The parents of two sons, Troy "Greg" and Kirk, they celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary earlier this year. He and his wife had a collaborative and caring relationship, based on mutual support and a deep love for each other.
A former member of the Ardmore Fire Department, Troy had also been employed with OG&E at Ada and more recently as an electrician at Valero refining.
It was often said that there wasn't a stranger Troy didn't soon know-or a smile kept to oneself. In his leisure time he enjoyed water skiing on the area lakes, O.U. football, softball and bowling. He liked to be with family and friends and to keep active.
In addition to his parents, Troy was preceded in death by a son, Troy "Greg" Gaither. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Gaither of the home in Ardmore; his son, Kirk Gaither and wife, Jana; four grandchildren, Jacob Gaither and wife, Katie, Jarod Gaither, Taylor Gaither, and Chelsea Vaughn; four great-grandchildren, Bryan Garza, Jaxon Gaither, Braylor Garza and Brady Gaither; sister, Marilyn Brogdon and husband, Red and twin-sister, Joy freeman; brothers, Larry Gaither and wife, Connie, Garry Gaither, Dale Ray Gaither and wife, Jo Beth; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 26th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Randal Richards. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the assistance of Jacob, Jarod and Bradley Gaither, Tim Acox, Chad Blalock and Kelly Bryant serving as pallbearers.
