James "Jim" Mortson
Urbana - James "Jim" Mortson was born August 9, 1969 to Barbara (Neal) and Michael Mortson in Urbana, IL. He passed from this life on July 23, 2021 at the age of 50.
Jim was a graduate of Lawton McArthur High School in the class of 1987. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served for 11 years, finishing his service working with the Military Intelligence as a Russian interpreter. He then enrolled at The George Washington University in Washington, DC where he received his MBA and kept on studying and received his CPA. On December 21, 2003 he married Patrice Duni in Lake Tahoe, NV. They met in Monterey, CA while Jim was attending the Defense Language Institute for his Russian language course. As fate would have it, they met in an Irish Pub during trivia night where Patrice caught his eye and mind with her sports trivia knowledge. After Monterey, they lived in Northern Virginia for over 18 years where Jim completed his Army career, education, and began his career in the world of finance. He began as a financial analyst working his way up to become a controller before getting his "corner" office as Chief Financial Officer of several companies specializing in defense contracting. Upon the passing of his mom, Jim became a consultant with an accounting software company allowing him to work from his forever home in Ardmore, Oklahoma in 2016.
Jim was an avid cyclist, skier, and OU fan. The day he purchased OU season tickets was one of the happiest days of his life...Boomer! Sooner! He loved going to games and talking about all things OU. He loved to travel and Breckenridge, CO was most definitely his happy place, where he and Patrice would ski in the winter and go back to enjoy the outdoors for the summer. His dream came true when moving to Ardmore and purchasing a home with acreage. His John Deere riding lawn mower, wood shop, and Orschelns purchased carpenter pants were where he felt most happy and at home. Jim could be found attempting to train his two Australian Shepherd dogs, Jax and Izzy, though it could be said that they might have trained him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Barbara Mortson; and grandparents Loraine and Floyd "Jim" Neal.
He is survived by his wife Patrice Mortson of Ardmore, OK; brothers Chris Mortson and his wife Misty of Lone Grove, OK, Victor Mortson and Max Mortson of Duncan, OK; nephews Ian Mortson and Robert Roberts of Lone Grove, OK; and stepmother Gerry Mortson of Duncan, OK.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 26 in the evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Craddock Funeral Home.
