Lydia Pettyjohn Mason Jones
Lydia Pettyjohn Mason Jones was born into this world on July 13th 1938 and departed this life on July 24th 2021 at the age of 83.
Lydia was the only child of Alta N. Sparks Pettyjohn and John Pettyjohn. She was raised in Berwyn, Oklahoma and graduated from Berwyn High School in 1955. Lydia continued her education at Southeastern State College and graduated with a Bachelors of Education in 1964. She taught home economics, art, language arts, reading, and lower elementary, retiring after 28 years at Springer Schools.
Lydia was a loving mother of two daughters, Julie Davis and Tammy Mason. She was married to JW Davis in 1956, Larry Mason in 1962 and Paul B. Jones in 1981 all three husbands preceded her in death. She was an amazingly strong lady surviving the loss of 3 husbands and prevailing cancer 3 times in her life. Throughout her life, Lydia had a love of caring for others, teaching, practicing art, gardening, playing the piano, and was an avid reader all of her life.
She was a great support system for daughters and all of her grandchildren, tutoring them through school, and seeing them through college. Lydia was a member of the Springer Missionary Baptist church since 1981 where she taught Sunday school for many years. Her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life and she always made sure they knew just how much she cared.
Lydia was preceded in death by her mother, father, JW Davis husband, Larry Mason husband, Paul B. Jones husband and granddaughter, Rose Kelly.
She is survived by daughter Julie Davis of Ardmore, daughter Tammy Thompson and husband Gary Thompson of Ardmore, grandchildren Arron Koontz of Ardmore, Ashley Biggs and husband Paul of Bristow, Brittani Thompson of Oklahoma City and Homor Kelly of Northern California. Great-grandchildren Talyn and Huntely Biggs, Landry and Holden Koontz, and Reed Kelly.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Lydia's caregivers Brenda Russell, Annette Doss, and Roger Tally.
