Evelyn Maxine Cohoon

Marietta - Evelyn Maxine Cohoon, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the age of 64. She was born May 21, 1957 in Marietta, OK, the daughter of T.J. and Hattie Mae (Ivins) Welch.

Evelyn was a lifelong area resident. She attended Greenville School through 8th grade and graduated with the Marietta High School Class of 1975. Evelyn married the love of her life Michael Gene "Mike" Cohoon on June 2, 1979 in Wilson, OK.

Evelyn was a dedicated and hard worker at home, throughout her career path, and as a community volunteer. She recently retired from Michelin after working there for 32 years. After living with a man who had devoted over 22 years to the volunteer fire department and aiding them behind the scenes for so many years, she took the plunge and traded in her fire fighter's wife hat for her own fire fighter's hat. Evelyn followed in the footsteps of her husband and her father in serving the community as a firefighter, but she blazed her own trail as Marietta's first female volunteer firefighter. Though small in stature, she leaves big boots to fill. Even though Evelyn had a passion for serving, she was in heaven when she was on the farm. She loved caring for the cattle and spent countless hours in the hayfields. Evelyn was constantly busy, but she always had time for family and cherished her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She touched lives of so many with her unconditional love, generosity, and kindness.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Angela Welch; and parents-in-law, Wanda and Floyd Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Cohoon of the home; brothers, Dennis Welch of Marietta, Jerry Welch and wife Lynn of Howe, TX, and Kenneth Welch and wife Rebecca of Dickson, OK; sister, Pam Blackburn and husband David of Wilson, OK; sister-in-law, Donna Martin and Randy Sloan of Ringling, OK; nephews, Brandon Martin and wife Melanie, Chris Blackburn, Cody Welch, Seth Seibold, and Dalton Elmer; nieces, Amy Wade and husband Brandon, Kara Burden and husband J.D., Jorie Seibold, and Jenna Elmer; great nieces and nephews, Dustin Martin, Mariah Martin, Brice Wade, Kye Wade, Knox Wade, Lexis Hicks, Christopher Hicks, and Bentley Hicks; numerous friends and other family members.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Casket bearers are Brandon Martin, Chris Blackburn, Cody Welch, Seth Seibold, Dalton Elmer, and Ryan Gibbs. Honorary bearers are David Kerr, Jerry Kerr, Rick Brannan, and the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department.
