Jane Lauchlin (McNeill) Knight
Jane Lauchlin (McNeill) Knight died September 9, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born March 4, 1943 in Galveston, Texas. She grew up in Dallas and attended Hillcrest High School where she met her husband Frank. They both graduated from Hillcrest in 1961. Jane was a 1965 graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in Education. She was an English teacher for several years in Dallas.
Jane was a faithful caregiver, talented seamstress, avid reader and eloquent writer.
Jane and Frank moved from Dallas in 1972 to River Forest, Illinois where she used her talents to serve in the River Forest Presbyterian Church. Her crafting and sewing skills were always put to good use for fundraising events at church. She also volunteered at her kids' school as a guest presenter in the subject of Art Appreciation.
In order to be closer to family, the Knights moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1981 where her love for reading led her to be active in book clubs. The Athenaeum Book Club and the Ladies of the Leaf were such a joy to her for many years. She also enjoyed her weekly Mah Jongg Group.
Jane and Frank were faithful members of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Ardmore. Jane applied her gifts in writing and serving through most of their 33 years of membership, specifically through crafting the church newsletter for over 20 years.
Jane did take on a few jobs at various points during their time in Ardmore. These included her work at the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce and the management of the iconic Daube's Department Store Gift Shop.
When Jane and Frank relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2014 to be closer to family, she continued on in a local Book Club and Mah Jongg group. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her loving husband Frank R. Knight, her daughter and son-in-law Meredith and Eric Roberts; her son and daughter-in-law Russell and Debbie Knight; her grandchildren Madeleine McCullar, Sophia Roberts, Griffin Roberts, John Knight, Sarah Knight, and Katie Knight.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph P. and Christine A. McNeill, as well as her sister, Laura Royall and brother, Joseph P. McNeill, Jr.
Services will be held Thursday, September 16 at 11:00am at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in honor of Jane's memory to The Gratitude Trust at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice. Thank you.
