Reba Marie Wallace

Ardmore - Reba Marie Wallace was born July 12, 1928, to Lewis Butler (Buck) Taylor and Ollie Arrington Taylor, in Hickory, OK. She was the third of five children. As the daughter of a cowboy, Marie spent her younger years in various parts of eastern Oklahoma, including Divide and Ada, before settling in Centrahoma to finish high school. After graduation, she attended Murray State College in Tishomingo where she played basketball, completed her education degree, and met Edgar. They were married in 1948 - a marriage which lasted just two months short of seventy years when Edgar passed.

As a teacher, Marie was proud of the fact that in the course of her career she taught every grade, 1-12, at some point. She first taught two years in Thackerville, followed by one year in Paoli, before moving to Ardmore in 1956, where she settled into her role of elementary teacher at Mt. Washington School, Franklin Elementary, and finally Northwest Elementary.

Marie and Edgar loved to travel and often headed out for a cross-country trip as soon as school was out for the summer. One of their first adventures was taking their first class of Thackerville students on a senior trip to Cuba. After early retirement in 1985, they ventured further, visiting Alaska, Japan, South Korea, Scotland, and Mexico.

Marie was a faithful (and founding) member of Maxwell Avenue Church of Christ, now Church of Christ on Merrick Drive. She and Edgar also attended Hillcrest Church of Christ while living in Abilene, TX, for 17 years, before returning to Ardmore in 2016.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Ollye; her older brother Lewis Taylor and older sister Myra Barnes, and younger brothers Choice Taylor and Bunnie (who died as an infant); her son Jeffrey Lynn Wallace; and her husband of almost 70 years, Marvin Edgar Wallace.

Marie is survived by daughter Gwynn Haseltine, sons Scott Wallace and wife Marie, and Bruce Wallace; granddaughters Jennifer Beard and husband Blake, Kelly Quinn, Jessica Khachiyants, Melanie Haseltine, and Claire Haseltine, Rachel Wallace and grandson Shawn Wallace; and great-grandchildren Charles and Gracie Beard; as well as many members of her extended and much-loved "adopted" Wallace family.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 25, 2021 11:00 AM in the Craddock Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday from 6-7 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be live streamed on the Craddock Funeral Home YouTube channel. Online condolences may be made at craddockfuneralhome.com.
