Steven Dale Cottrell

Steven Dale “Steve” Cottrell was born August 8, 1953, in Hawthorne, CA, to the late Olan Lee & Louella (Wilson) Cottrell. He died Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Norman, following a brief illness. He was 68 years, 3 months, and 24 days old. Steve and the former Ms. Benita Kay Smith were married on March 31, 1971, in Gainesville, TX. From this union were born two children, Stephanie, and Ryan.

Steve grew up in Davis, graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1971. Following high school, he spent many years working in construction, with his former brother-in-law, Charles Gillispie. He later attended truck driving school and began driving a truck for J & D Hauling in Ardmore. In 2000, after 10+ years of driving, he was forced to retire, due to back problems.

As a teenager, Steve became a baptized member of the First Baptist Church of Davis. On December 12, 2020, he rededicated his life to the Lord and was baptized again, by his brother Jack. In younger years, Steve enjoyed playing golf and hunting & fishing. He also enjoyed traveling, boating and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Benita; daughter, Stephanie Cottrell, son Ryan Cottrell & wife Twyla, all of Davis; three granddaughters, Kirby, Charli and Rianna Cottrell; one great-granddaughter, Rowyn Kayt Cottrell; brother, Jackie Bob Cottrell & wife Reta of Noble; sister, Linda Friday & husband Maurice, also of Noble; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Lee Cottrell and one nephew, Steven Matthew Cottrell.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr officiating.

Services are entrusted to HALE’S FUNERAL HOME, DAVIS.
