All season long, the Plainview High School football team proved it could step up in crunch time. Whether it was one-point wins at home over Pauls Valley and North Rock Creek or a close victory at Kingfisher – the Indians found a spark when they needed to, which helped propel them to a 9-1 record.
Unfortunately, Plainview couldn’t carry that magic to the playoffs as the 2024 campaign ended Friday night with a 25-14 setback to Bristow.
Penalties were the story of the game as the Indians were flagged 15 times for 106 yards. That combined with losing the turnover battle by a 4-1 margin made a difference down the stretch.
Plainview senior Braden French tallied an interception, but it didn’t result in any points. Cooper Flowers and Bo Brewster each rushed for a touchdown, while Taylor Bederka kicked a pair of extra points to account for the final tally.
The Indians trailed 7-0 at the end of the first quarter before Flowers’ one-yard run brought them within 10-7 at the 3:04 mark of the second. However, Bristow quickly responded to take a 10-point halftime advantage.
It appeared Plainview was building some momentum when Brewster scored the first points of the second half with 5:24 remaining in the third. That helped the Indians inch with 17-14, but they couldn’t get any closer in the loss.
Elgin 43, Ardmore 0
At Elgin, the Tigers struggled to build momentum Friday night as their season came to an end.
Ardmore kept it close early with just an 8-0 deficit in the first quarter. However, Elgin changed that by scoring four times in the second for a 36-0 lead at halftime. The Owls tallied their final touchdown in the third to seal it.
The Tigers finished the 2024 season with a 6-5 overall record.
Ringling 44, Mooreland 8
At Ringling, it was all Blue Devils in this one Friday as they cruised to the second round of the Class A state playoffs.
Ringling (8-3) is back home at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 against Regent Prep (10-1) after the Rams notched a 37-14 win over Ketchum.
Thomas-Fay-Custer 28, Wilson 6
At Thomas, it was a tough Friday as the Eagles concluded the year with a setback in the first round of the playoffs.
Wilson finished the 2024 campaign with a 5-6 overall mark.
