Dickson’s search for its next head football coach will enter its next phase today when interviews for qualified candidates are scheduled to begin, Comets athletics director David Gardner said Monday evening.

Gardner can’t recall the exact number of candidates who have applied for the job, which has been vacant since Nov. 11 — when it was announced that Bill Green won’t return for a second season as Comets coach — but he has been pleased with the quality of the applicants.

“We’ve had some really good, quality people apply for the job, and I have been real happy with that,” Gardner said.

Once all of the interviews have been conducted, he said the applicant pool will be narrowed down to eight finalists, and a committee will be in charge of making the final recommendations to the school district.

“We feel that we have plenty of time to give its due justice as far as consideration,” Gardner said.
