Over the past two days, the most common question that Plainview High School athletic director David Gilliam has been asked is: Will Plainview have a home game Friday?
Construction has been ongoing at Plainview Stadium since April 24.
The crew has removed the stadium’s grass field and installed a new artificial turf.
Despite ongoing construction to the track around the football field, Gilliam told The Ardmoreite on Monday the new field will be ready in time for Friday’s season opener between Broken Bow and Plainview. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
“They are putting the finishing touches on everything,” he said. “They are putting down pellets of sand and taking care of a few other things. Hopefully, the gravel will be put in the track, but it won’t be close to being anything ready. But the field will be playable.”
Had the field not been ready for Friday, Gilliam says the contest would have been played at a neutral site.
Knowing Plainview Stadium will be ready on time allows Indians fans to now focus their energy on the two teams and not the construction crew.
“If you haven’t been up there, it looks like a great football field,” Gilliam said.
