HEALDTON — It took all three games to decide the winner of the District 2A-6 Tournament.

Thanks to hits by Adrie Brown and Caycee Griffin in the top of the seventh inning Friday afternoon, Class 2A’s No. 10 Healdton defeated Colbert 9-4 in Game 3 at Lady Bulldogs Field to clinch a berth in a regional tournament.

Leading 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh, Healdton (22-6) got the bats going.

Brown struck for an RBI single to increase the lead to 6-4.

Griffin delivered the biggest blow: a bases-clearing double that bounced off the outfield wall to put the Lady Bulldogs in front 9-4.

“I said it (three weeks ago) when I said that Colbert is good and has good softball tradition,” Healdton coach Joel Bradberry said. “They are coached well and hit well. We got lucky and got hits and defensive plays when we needed to.

“Hopefully, it will make us better for (this week).”

Griffin didn’t want this past week to be the final time that she suited up in a Lady Bulldogs uniform, and she personally made sure that didn’t happen. She finished the three-game series 6 for 11 at the plate with three doubles and one triple.

“She could have very well had two or three more hits,” Bradberry said. “She hit a couple of hard balls that they caught.”

Mollie Marshall was 2 for 4.

Mikaela Reuber notched the complete-game victory, going all seven innings with three strikeouts to four runs allowed on seven hits.

Game 2: Colbert 5, Healdton 3

Morgan Auld went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate Friday.

Griffin finished 2 for 4 with a triple.

Game 1: Healdton 5, Colbert 3

Reuber allowed three runs on four hits with five strikeouts Friday afternoon to notch her first of two victories in a span of two days.

Griffin and Torree Wingo both had two hits in three at-bats.

Marshall tallied a double.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activity Association will release regional-tournament assignments on Monday.
