Mandy Sykora and Zane Nutter broke records as Marietta swept the 2016 Lovejoy Cross Country Fall Festival held Saturday at Myers Park in McKinney, Texas.

The girls won the small-school division (Classes 4A and under) with 25 points while the boys won the large-school division (Classes 5A and 6A) with 82 points.

Sykora (19:33.61) broke the course record for the division, Marietta coach Matt Appelman said. Nutter (16:33.94) set a new school record.

Marietta Lady Indians runners claimed the top three spots — Mandy Sykora, Mackenzie Muller and Gracie Cain, respectively — and finished with 25 points.

Vegas Bell and River Pierce placed seventh and 12th, respectively.

Melissa (Texas) ISD placed second with 87 points.

Marietta competed in its second meet in Texas this season.

"Anybody can go to them," Appelman said on Aug. 31. "Plainview's gone to a lot of them. That's kind of how we found about them.

"(It's) just an opportunity for our kids to run against some of the best runners in the south. ... We're trying to go to the best meets that are the closest to us. They just happened to be in Texas and there's some great competition down there so we're excited to go see what we can do in those meets."

The Indians defeated St. Marks of Texas by 23 points. According to its website, St. Marks is a private, non-sectarian college-preparatory boys’ day school.
